Strategic Planning Consultant

North Shore Community Action Programs needs a part-time consultant for a short-term contract to conduct primary source research around poverty issues: housing, homelessness and immigration, education and training. This information will be used as part of a larger 3-year strategic plan. Tasks may include:

  • Organize, conduct and summarize focus groups;
  • Primary source research on poverty-related demographic information;
  • Research workforce development and adult education trends;
  • Research on low-income housing;
  • Research on homelessness issues for both families and individuals; and
  • Some in-house meetings on the North Shore.

NSHAG Regional Coordinator
North Shore Housing Action Group
Supervisor: Executive Director

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership, oversight and coordination of activities of the North Shore Housing Action Group (NSHAG).
  • NSHAG provides coordination of services for families and individuals who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness.
  • Coordinate resources through the synchronized efforts of area homeless shelter providers, social and legal services, health care, education and training, domestic violence, youth and elder services and others.
  • Training and dissemination of materials and information to all members of the network as part of a broad-based information campaign;
  • Implements a uniform early warning triage and assessment system for those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness
  • Coordinate a data collection process that allows the region to assess its progress and best practices
  • Distribute flexible funds and soft subsidies for families and individuals
  • Act as liaison with the Housing Law Project, Neighborhood Legal Services and Lawyer for the Day Program serving the NSHAG Regional Network
  • Identify and coordinate the use of available community resources that could help in accomplishing network goals;
  • Coordinate and manage activities that are needed to sustain a regional network;
  • Maintain compliance with grant requirements
  • Develop and maintain relationships with funders and community agencies
  • Produce monthly report for the board of directors
  • Other related duties as assigned by Executive Director

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS in social services or BSW or a minimum of 5 years related work experience.
  • Experience with homeless and/or affordable housing issues
  • Advocacy work for low-income people
  • Knowledge of public benefit programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to research and comprehend laws, regulations and delivery systems.
  • Sensitivity and ability to communicate effectively with people from various backgrounds, and levels of disability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. 
  • Own transportation required.

NSHAG Resource Advocate
North Shore Housing Action Group
Supervisor: NSHAG REGIONAL COORDINATOR

POSITION
The North Shore Housing Action Group Resource Advocate will provide services to families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness as part of the North Shore Housing Action Group (NSHAG). NSHAG provides coordination of services for families and individuals who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness. NSHAG strives to provide full wrap-around services to this population through the coordinated efforts of area homeless shelter providers, social and legal services, health care, education and training, domestic violence, youth, elder services. The NSHAG region is comprised of 25 communities on the North Shore from Lynn to Gloucester. North Shore Community Action Programs (NSCAP) and Lynn Housing Authority and Neighborhood Development (LHAND) are the co-conveners of the North Shore Housing Action Group.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide intake, assessment, resources and options to families and individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
  • To provide advocacy intervention and assistance with problem solving.
  • To maintain a detailed case file for each family or individual.
  • To develop a working knowledge of available resources, housing options, relevant public benefit systems, flexible funds and soft subsidies that may be utilized by clients.
  • To participate in the collection of data that allows the region to assess its progress and best practices.
  • To develop and maintain relationships with funders, government agencies and community agencies.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in social services or BSW or a minimum of 5 years related work experience.
  • Knowledge of public benefit programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to research and comprehend laws, regulations and delivery systems.

Web Designer/Educator (Part-Time)
Salem CyberSpace

Salem CyberSpace is a community technology center that expands educational and career opportunities for low-income youth and adults Salem, MA. One of our premier programs is CyberCorps (www.cybercorpsofsalem.com), an afterschool program in which youth learn Web design skills they put to work in fee-base design of Web sites for nonprofits and small businesses. Salem CyberSpace is a program of North Shore Community Action Programs, Inc., the anti-poverty nonprofit serving Peabody, Salem, Beverly, Danvers, and surrounding communities.

POSITION
Reporting to the program director, the Web Designer/Educator trains CyberCorps youth in Web design and guides them in building Web sites for nonprofits and small businesses.

This is a part-time position of up to 15 hours a week that could become full time if Web-design fees and grants grow to support a full-time salary.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Web Designer/Educator is chiefly responsible for training and guiding the CyberCorps youth in Web design. Other duties include designing newsletters, invitations, flyers, and other graphic design projects. This is an excellent opportunity to build marketing skills.

FLEXIBLE HOURS
Hours are flexible, but at least 8 hours must be after school, preferably four hours on Friday afternoons and four hours on Saturday mornings. The remaining hours could be worked on weekday mornings.

QUALIFICATIONS
Salem Cyberspace seeks a talented Web designer with a passion for education who would like to take the CyberCorps program to the next level.

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in Web design and graphic design.
  • Some experience teaching or mentoring students.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple projects and work independently in a deadline driven environment.
  • Excellent writing and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Dreamweaver, CSS, and HTML.
  • Familiarity with various open source CMS platforms, such as WordPress.
  • Knowledge of PHP and Constant Contact a plus.

Personal Care Assistants (Part-time)

Our Elder Home Care program has an immediate opening for Personal Care Assistants and Homemakers interested in training to become Personal Care Assistants. Positions have potential of becoming full-time positions. The ideal candidate will be able to provide personal care and/or homemaking services to elderly and/or disabled clients. Must have own transportation and be sensitive to the needs of the elderly. Some evenings and weekends are necessary. Experience is preferred but not mandatory.
